Miss B’s Cozy Boudoir Shoot | Houston Boudoir Photographer | Portrait by Chrissy

Miss R is rocking the blog today with with her cozy boudoir session here in my Houston boudoir studio. Cozy boudoir is at the top of the list of my favorite styles of boudoir. Although I like classic boudoir, cozy boudoir is different, stands out, and isn’t cookie cutter. Your real energy comes out in unposed and flowing cozy boudoir.

Anywho, this is yet another amazing session that you don’t have to break the bank to style. Everything Miss R is photographed in came straight from her own wardrobe. Bodysuits, cozy sweater, and even though the workout bra wasn’t initially a part of the wardrobe plan, I said throw it on and let’s roll with it!! It came out perfect!!

INTRODUCTION TO PERSONAL BRANDING

Thinking about booking a boudoir session? Are you on the fence? Have questions? Just curious? I got you! I am creating this Ultimate Personal Branding Guide to help you understand more about personal branding, how it can help your brand, why you need it, what to expect, and answer some common questions.

First, what is personal branding?

Personal branding is using portraiture to connect to your ideal and target audience or client. You are the face of your brand. Showcase you and your service or profession in portraits – not stock image photography!

How does personal branding differ from business branding?

Your business brand is what connects the product or service to your brand and your business identity such as, your logo, theme, color scheme, catch phrase. Your personal brand is what connects your ideal audience to you in a personal way. Example, if you are a personal trainer, not only would you want portraits of your headshot, you also want portraits of you in action, being relatable, connecting with your audience.

What can you do with your personal branding portraits?

You can do so much more than just putting your headshot on a business card or flyer. Personal branding is deeper than that! You can use your images on your website banners, create posters and hero images for your website, you can use it to drive a message on social media, for ads and ad funnels, you can use your branding for marketing material such as banners, signs, print, brochures, magazines, etc… and did you know, when you book a personal branding session with Portrait by Chrissy, I don’t just take your photograph, I can also design and produce your marketing materials! I will go over this more later in the guide. When you do a personal branding session, you will have images to produce at a moments notice to showcase the face of your business and brand.

THE PORTRAIT BY CHRISSY PERSONAL BRAND EXPERIENCE

The Portrait by Chrissy Personal Brand Experience includes complimentary dry hair styling and makeup application for those who want it, some of my clients like a natural look and that is fine too. If you are doing an on location shoot, complimentary hair and make will not be available. On the day of your session clients arrive to the studio at 10 am and go into hair and makeup. Hair and makeup lasts anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half depending on how much hair you have.

Once hairstyling and makeup is complete, or if you have opted for a natural look, we go through your wardrobe and start planning the oder of wardrobe, additional accessories, and backdrop/scene. Each personal brand session comes with 3-4 outfits/looks. This process generally takes about 10-20 minutes. For on location shoots, I have a portable changing tent.

Once we have the game plan the shoot begins. I begin to guide you through a series of poses keeping in mind any concerns you will address in the booking process and keeping poses strategic and flattering to your body shape, and minimize insecurities, and show of your personal essence for your brand. The shoot generally lasts about an hour and a half.

After your shoot clients come back to the studio in 2-3 weeks to review their images and make selections.

WARDROBE & STYLING

When it comes to wardrobe and styling, you want to stay true to your brand and what you want to convey. Since you do get 3-4 looks with your session, I recommend maximizing each look to be different so it can meet more of your needs with versatility. Let me give you some examples:

If you are a fitness trainer, you may want to consider a few looks such as:

A suit for a polished business look
A casual outfit for a softer and connecting look
Two different workout outfits to show connection to your craft and yourself in action

If you are a realtor, you may want to consider a few looks such as:

A skirt suit
A pant suit
A dress
A casual outfit

As a general rule, anyone doing a branding session should consider a mix between a statement or power suit, a business casual look, a dressy look, and a profession look if you are in a profession that is identified by clothing or uniform.

Q&A

I love your black and white look, can I have black and white portraits?

Absolutely!

Where is your studio located and is it an actual studio?

Good question! My studio is a home based studio. I converted a large room in my home to a home studio to work out of, while it is in my home, it is an actual studio. My studio is located in the CyFair Area of Houston in the Copperfield Area. In late 2020 I will be looking to open another studio location to inside the inner-loop.

Do you offer wardrobe?

I do not offer wardrobe for branding sessions although you are welcome to my studio wardrobe closet, personal branding is more of a personal touch when it comes to your wardrobe and styling.

Do you give digitals?

Yes, yes I do. Every image selected for your folio comes with a digital web image.

When do I see my images?

2-3 weeks after your shoot, you’ll come back to Portrait by Chrissy’s studio to select the images you want in your album, select any album upgrades, and order addition wall art if you want wall art.

How long does product take to come in?

Prints and wall art take 7-14 days

Marketing material takes 7-14 days after design work is approved and finalized.

I don’t want prints, I just want digitals do you do that?

You can do digitals only, it does not change the price of the session or images to a lower price point. We will over digital options in your reveal session.

What does retouching go over?

When you book, you’ll receive a questionnaire that will go over all your retouching concerns. We can leave you natural in your beauty but we understand that some women want things out of their images, basic retouching includes removal of acne, blemishes, red spots, dark circles.

We can remove or soften scars, tattoos, stretch marks, eczema, psoriasis, cysts, at clients request.

I don’t want my images on social media, your website, or I want to control what is shown.

Not a soul outside you, me, and my professional print lab will see your images or know you had a shoot with me unless you give sharing permissions. At your reveal I have a form you will fill out with sharing permissions if you want your images shared at all. You can even set the control website and blog only, studio samples only, no one, etc… your privacy is our top concern.

Will you blog my images?

Only if you give permission.

What forms of payment do you accept?

As of February 2020 all payments are done through Square, our card processing merchant. we are no longer accepting PayPal or PayPal Me payments. Square accepts Apple Pay, Google Pay, Visa, Master Card, American Express, and Discover. Checks are not accepted.

Can you shoot outside, at a cafe, or my office/business location?

Yes! We are equipped to go mobile. We will not shoot in an AirBNB without express written consent from the owner. Any location that is a business or privately owned, you must have permission from the owner that can be verified. . Will you travel out of town or State to conduct a shoot for me?

THE PORTRAIT BY CHRISSY PORTRAIT EXPERIENCE

The Portrait by Chrissy Portrait Experience includes complimentary dry hair styling and makeup application for those who want it, some of my clients like a natural look and that is fine too. On the day of your session clients arrive to the studio at 10 am and go into hair and makeup. Hair and makeup lasts anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half depending on how much hair you have.

Once hairstyling and makeup is complete, or if you have opted for a natural look, we go through your wardrobe and start planning the order of wardrobe, additional accessories, and backdrop/scene. Each portrait session comes with 3-4 outfits/looks. This process generally takes about 10-20 minutes.

Once we have the game plan the shoot begins. I begin to guide you through a series of poses keeping in mind any concerns you will address in the booking process and keeping poses strategic and flattering to your body shape, and minimize insecurities. The shoot generally lasts about an hour and a half.

After your shoot clients come back to the studio in 2-3 weeks to review their images and make album or folio selections, order upgrades, and any additional product such as wall art or enlargements.

When you book your portrait session with Portrait by Chrissy, you will receive a copy of our Style Guide which is full of amazing tips, in depth pictures, and style varieties to style your session.

When it comes to styling your portrait session, start by looking in your own closet! You don’t have to go out and spend a ton of money on wardrobe. You can even borrow from our Client Wardrobe Closet and mix and match with your own wardrobe and accessories.

When planning your portrait session, plan each look to be different from one another do your session doesn’t seem repetitive. While I only shoot 3-4 looks, I recommend bring at least 6-8 outfits/pieces. Use this opportunity to create different looks with a purpose. You can mix and match your session to accommodate different uses and needs for your portraits.

A fun and sexy look

Why? You can use your images from you session for a legacy portrait to pass down, a dating profile image, a business look to polish your your headshot and brand, a social media profile look, so many different ways to use your final images. COMMON CONCERNS ADDRESSED

A lot of women have concerns when it comes to portraits, in this section I am going to address what is common objections or worries when it comes to having your portraits done.

Yeah but all these women look like models…

But they’re not! They are women like you and I from all backgrounds and walks of life. In fact, most women who come through my studio feel as if they are not modelesque enough…until they see their final images! The most common phrase said after a client sees their images at their reveal is “I can’t believe that’s me.” ALSO, we need to address something, don’t compare yourself to other women, we are all beautiful and we are all unique which makes us even more beautiful.

I’m just not photogenic…

The biggest myth on the planet next to “I need to lose ___ pounds” (see below). There is no such thing as not being photogenic. That is a misnomer, you are either comfortable with the camera or you are not comfortable with camera. It’s my job to to make you comfortable and do the work to put you at ease. Let me stress over your portraits looking amazing!

I’m so insecure about my….

ALL women have something about their body they are insecure about! Often, our insecurities is our mind telling us we are not good enough when in fact we are. Never the less, when you book your session I will go over everything! If you don’t like or are worried about a specific part of your body, we will minimize and/or accentuate through posing and wardrobe.

I just need to lose 20 pounds first…

Let me be honest, you are probably perfect just as you are. Second, there is a myth that the camera adds 10 pounds, an inexperienced photographer adds 10 pounds. A professional photographer who is experienced in their profession can take 20 pounds off you through posing, angles, and using their equipment to its advantage. Now I want to get real with you, do you know every person who has said “Let me just lose____ first,” fast forward six months, one year, two years, and they STILL haven’t lost anything and a lot have gained. Don’t let the false idea of needing weight-loss to be photographed beautifully stop you from one of the most amazing experiences you can have.

I want to do this but I am not sure I can afford this…

I work with women from all walks of life and socioeconomic backgrounds. In the next session I’ll answer how you can afford your portrait session as I make it easy for everyone to do this!

The Forty Over Forty Project

Something big is about to be a part of Portrait by Chrissy! I am officially launching a personal portrait art campaign called The Forty Over Forty Campaign. It is my mission to photograph forty women over the age of 40 in 2020 and submit these works of art to a local art gallery for an exhibit. The women in this project do not have to be models or even modelesque. I want women over the age of 40 from all walks of life, shapes and sizes, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

If you’re a woman over the age of 40 and you want to be a part of something bigger, Portrait by Chrissy cordially invites you to come be a part of something bigger with The Forty Over Forty Project. I am launching this project to celebrate women over the age of 40 as I myself sit on the cusp of 40 at the age of 39. Women over 40 are absolutely breathtaking and stunning and in this project I intend to show the world through my art exactly how beautiful women over 40 are.

Here’s the details:

To be a part of this project you must be a woman over the age of 40 years old willing to sit for either a Modern Portrait or a Fine Art Modern Boudoir Portrait. (Boudoir selection will be styled in a fine art boudoir style for your session)

You MUST like and follow my Facebook Page Portrait by Chrissy or Portrait by Chrissy Boudoir

You must sign up before March 15th, 2020, there are only 40 slots for this project so you need to grab your slot fast!

Shoots will begin in March 2020 and be 30 minutes long

You will come hair and makeup ready – don’t worry, I will give you a prep guide so you’re picture perfect!

You will be photographed in 1-2 outfits you can choose from my wardrobe or style your own look from my Wardrobe Styling Guides.

There is a $100 session fee required. You can split your payments into two payments of $50 but you must be paid in full by March 15th, 2020. This will include your portrait session an a 5×7 matted print of the image I select to go to the art gallery should I be accepted as an exhibitor. Our regular session fee is $300 and our portrait images start at $200, you save $400 on portrait services with your entry into this project.

There is no further purchase necessary or required, you can choose to purchase additional images but it is not necessary.

Chrissy’s Boudoir Shoot |Houston Boudoir Photographer | Portrait by Chrissy

I did it! I took the plunge and did my own boudoir session. How can I tell other women they are perfectly beautiful and worth of boudoir and portraiture if I am too afraid to step in front of the camera myself. Yes, yes you heard that right, me the photographer has her own fears of being photographed! Just like you, I too am human and have my own struggle with body insecurities, fear of what people will think and say about me and my body, and feeling I am not pretty enough to be photographed like this…

And I was dead wrong! I have never been more in love with myself since I dove right it.

I knew I had to do this when I started photographing boudoir more and more last year. I knew I couldn’t be the boudoir photographer who couldn’t get in front of her own camera, what message would that send? Well, fast forward to February 2020 and this girl finally did it. I was scared as hell!

I purchased my bodysuit in Torrid and I remember standing in the dressing room looking at myself in the mirror and thinking “What are you about to do? No one wants to see your fat arse in this!” Yes, I thought that to myself, I have to speak freely and as a real woman, not as the professional preaching body empowerment. I had a real woman moment. I remembered what would I say to a woman thinking these thoughts? I’d tell her she was nuts and her mind was dumping irrational toxic thoughts into her soul she needed to cleanse. I had to remind myself that I am always going to be my worst critic. Walking up to check out I felt that crazy feeling of wooziness as I realized what I was buying this body suit for.

The next day it was showtime. It was time to do my shoot. One advantage I do have as a photographer is I am shooting in my own space so I can’t say yet I can understand feeling undressed and half dressed in front of a stranger with a camera in my face expecting me to be natural but, in the back of my mind was “What if they all point and laugh at me?”

Now, one major area I can sympathize with my clients now is in motion shots, something I absolutely love but am now more aware of the degree of difficulty that is required to constantly be in repetitive motion. It’s exhausting and it can throw you off balance. My average session is an hour and half, I had had enough forty-five minutes in. Once I called “It’s a wrap” I sat naked in my studio, editing my images, with nothing but a cardigan on lol…true story! I was so enthralled with my images I had to start editing right then and there. Four hours went by of culling and editing my images.

When I finished up what I wanted to edit immediately I called my husband to have a look-see and my images. I was so in love and he was too. I told him “I can’t believe this is me!” He laughed, looked at me, and said “You sound familiar…” I always hear from my clients “Oh my gosh, I can’t believe this is me, this doesn’t look like me, I can’t believe it,” and now here I am feeling it!

Then it was time to post my images on my boudoir page and on my personal Facebook feed. How did I feel? I wanted to vomit! I was scared! I was afraid of judgement and shocking my friends and associates and would upset some people but, I had to…this is my profession. In hindsight, even if this wasn’t my profession, I’d still post but in the moment I was terrified and now I’ll explain how I feel in retrospect…

People often say “I don’t understand how it empowers women?” Well, before this past weekend I could only speak from an outsider looking position but now I can speak from personal testimony when I say “It is empowering as AF!” You just don’t know and cannot understand how empowering and how much it rockets your confidence until you do it yourself. Knowing that you can photograph like a goddess, an it girl, a work of art, does hella wonders for your confidence. How I feel now, if someone wants to clutch the hell out of their pearls and proclaim boudoir is offensive, or a woman shouldn’t have to have a boudoir shoot to feel empowered, or show a bit of skin, keep clutching til those pearls bust because I am an experienced believer who will be doing this again, and again, and again….

How To Style Your Boudoir Shoot With What You Already Have | Portrait by Chrissy | Houston Boudoir Photographer

Ok so you want to do a boudoir shoot but you’re not sure how to style your wardrobe OR you don’t want to spend a ton of money. I gotcha girl…you don’t have to spend a dime! I’m going to show you how you can style your shoot from items you probably already have in your wardrobe. First, don’t forget you can always style from my wardrobe closet, you can consider a nude boudoir shoot, or you can shop in your own closet for your wardrobe!

You don’t need lingerie to have an epic boudoir shoot in fact, my style is anything but lingerie. Your shoot, your style though, so if lingerie is your thang – do it! Still, consider some alternatives here…

In this quick little bloggity blog I am going to show you how to use items you probably already have!

Crop Top and Panties! Don’t have a crop top? A fitted T-shirt, or his favorite T-shirt would still make a great substitute. P.S. I have the leg warmers so if you like the look below, I have several styles in the studio <3

Bra and Panties!

You don’t want every look to be bra and panties, if you have a large collection, bring one or two sets. You don’t want your shoot be repetitive. Changes are you have a matching set of bra and panties so consider packing a few…

Suit jacket!

You probably have a fitted suit jacket in your closet. Consider bring it and if you don’t have one, I do! grab a pair of boy short panties or a lacy pair of panties and BOOM, you got a sexy look…

A decorative jacket!

Another cute idea to pair with a pair of matching panties. Heels optional…

A heavy jacket!

What? Three jacket looks so far… you probably have a beautiful winter dress coat in your closet that would be absolutely amazing incorporated into your boudoir session.

A robe.

Do you have a beautiful decorative robe or silk or lacy robe? Consider incorporating them into your session. Even a terry cloth robe would photograph beautiful in a boudoir shoot.

A body suit.

There are so many varieties of bodysuits that have come back into style and photograph beautifully in boudoir. I have several styles of bodysuits in the studio but chances are you have one already but, if you don’t I got your back!

A Kimono or Ruana

Another beautiful piece you make have in your closet you can bring to style your session. I have a few in the studio if you don’t.

Sports bra and panties.

If you love an athletic look, this is a perfect set to bring to your boudoir session!

A sweater and leggings.

If you love a modest look, consider a pair of leggings and a cozy sweater.

Cardigan Sweater.

A cardigan sweater looks amazing paired with a panty and bra set and over a bodysuit.

INTRODUCTION TO BOUDOIR

Thinking about booking a boudoir session? Are you on the fence? Have questions? Just curious? I got you! I am creating this Ultimate Boudoir Booking Guide to help you understand more about boudoir, what to expect, and answer some common questions. When you are considering a boudoir shoot it can be nerve-racking, I know, I went through it myself, but once you’ve done it you’ll realize how much fun you actually had and how much you will love your images.

First, what is boudoir? Boudoir is French for a woman’s sitting or dressing area. In portraiture, boudoir simply means “in the bedroom.” A lot of people believe a common myth that boudoir means nudity, while fine art nude portraits are often a part of boudoir, it does not have to be. You are in full control on how modest or spicy your session goes. Let’s dive a little deeper into the different types of portraiture intwined or lumped into boudoir and what is boudoir and what is not boudoir.

Boudoir Portraits – boudoir portraits is a common style of portraiture that is generally shot in a bedroom or studio setting showcasing feminine portraits in various styles of posing showing off curves and poses that accentuate a woman’s body.

Fine Art Nudes – often interlaced with boudoir, fine art nudes is a portraiture style that showcases the human body and human form in a state or various states of undress.

Implied Nudes – another category of portraiture that is often interlaced with boudoir where the subject is nude in the studio during the shoot but is strategically posed so the nipples, areola, and genital area is covered.

Erotic Photography – this is a separate genre from boudoir and often people associate this style of portraiture with boudoir. In erotic portraiture, the subject is often posed in sexually suggestive poses, nothing is left to the imagination, and often every aspect of the shoot is intended to sexually entice. – Portrait by Chrissy Boudoir does not photograph erotic nudes.

Now that you know a bit about boudoir, let’s talk about the Portrait by Chrissy Boudoir Experience…

THE PORTRAIT BY CHRISSY BOUDOIR EXPERIENCE

The Portrait by Chrissy Boudoir Experience includes complimentary dry hair styling and makeup application for those who want it, some of my clients like a natural look and that is fine too. On the day of your session clients arrive to my Houston boudoir studio at 10 am and go into hair and makeup. Hair and makeup lasts anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half depending on how much hair you have.

Once hairstyling and makeup is complete, or if you have opted for a natural look, we go through your wardrobe and start planning the oder of wardrobe, additional accessories, and backdrop/scene. Each boudoir session comes with 3-4 outfits/looks (fine art nudes count towards a look/outfit). This process generally takes about 10-20 minutes.

Once we have the game plan the shoot begins. I begin to guide you through a series of poses keeping in mind any concerns you will address in the booking process and keeping poses strategic and flattering to your body shape, and minimize insecurities. The shoot generally lasts about an hour and a half.

After your shoot clients come back to our Houston boudoir studio in 2-3 weeks to review their images and make album selections, order upgrades, and any additional product such as wall art or enlargements.

Detail Shots

Detail shots focus on body parts and body form. From collarbones, to spines, to legs, to hands, detail shots are more artful but flaunt beautiful detail of your body.

Classic Boudoir

Classic boudoir features the classic boudoir poses that is traditionally showcased in boudoir. Arched backs, pointed toes, every detail of the body is carefully posed and placed.

Semi-Silhouette | Backlit

Backlit beautiful portraits with a burst of light from behind, softening the skin, making a dreamy and beautiful portrait.

Fine Art Nude and Implied Nude

Nude portraits that showcase the female form artfully and tastefully posed in classic boudoir or in an artful or strategic pose.

Movement

WARDROBE & STYLING BOUDOIR

When it comes to styling your boudoir shoot it doesn’t have to be difficult. In fact, you could probably find everything you need in your closet and dressers at home. There’s no need to run out and spend a ton of money on your boudoir attire unless of course, you want to.

When planning your boudoir session, plan each look to be different from one another do your session doesn’t seem repetitive. While I only shoot 3-4 looks, I recommend bring at least 6-8 outfits/pieces. Below are some examples of what to wear for your boudoir session:

What products do I offer my clients? When I shoot I shoot with albums and wall art in mind.

In 2020 we will be adding more album options to our studio but for now we offer our signature album that is a beautiful vegan leather and hand-bound album in either 8×8, 10×10, or 12×12. As of February 17, 2020 all of Portrait by Chrissy Boudoir sessions will include our base album which is an 8×8 album with 8 images in a 10 page album spread. COMMON CONCERNS ADDRESSED

A lot of women have concerns when it comes to boudoir, in this section I am going to address what is common objections or worries when it comes to having your portraits done.

I am not sure this is for me…

Boudoir IS for you. It’s for every woman. You have full control over how modest or how spicy your boudoir shoot goes.

Yeah but all these women look like models…

Well, I am too old for boudoir…

(Yes, a client said that to me) No, one is too old to be photographed, and no one is too old to be photographed beautifully, and no one is too old to be photographed in boudoir.

I like the idea of boudoir, but I don’t want to be photographed naked…

You do not have to be naked to have a boudoir session. In fact, I have done fully clothed session. You have full control over how you are photographed.

I’m so insecure about my….

I just need to lose 20 pounds first…

I want to do this but I am not sure I can afford this…

I work with women from all walks of life and socioeconomic backgrounds. In the next session I’ll answer how you can afford your boudoir session as I make it easy for everyone to do this!

Q&A

In this final section, I will address some of the most common questions about boudoir and my boudoir studio.

Why black and white only for boudoir?

I love black and white and I think it’s more modern and aesthetically pleasing. Also, I want to be a bit different in a saturated market not just with black and white boudoir portraiture, but also have boudoir portraiture is photographed.

Where is your Houston boudoir studio located and is it an actual studio?

Do you offer wardrobe?

I have limited wardrobe for boudoir in my studio. You are always welcome to use studio wardrobe for your shoot.

Do you give digitals?

Yes, yes I do. Every image selected for your album comes with a digital web image.

When do I see my images?

2-3 weeks after your shoot, you’ll come back to Portrait by Chrissy Boudoir’s studio to select the images you want in your album, select any album upgrades, and order addition wall art if you want wall art.

How long does product take to come in?

Prints and wall art take 7-14 days

Albums take up to 3 weeks from the date you approve your album design.

I don’t want an album, do you do print instead?

Yes, each package will come with a folio box with matted fine art print alternative you can select if albums are not your thing.

I don’t want prints either, I just want digitals do you do that?

You can do digitals only, it does not change the price of the session or images to a lower price point. Only web resolution digitals would be released. we will over digital options in your reveal session.

What does retouching go over?

I don’t want my images on social media, your website, or I want to control what is shown.

Will you blog my images?

Only if you give permission.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I’m pregnant and I’d like a boudoir like shoot. Do you do that?

Yes! We will photograph maternity in a boudoir style.

Can you shoot at my home or a hotel or an outside studio?

Will you travel out of town or State to conduct a shoot for me?

Do you photograph couples?

Not at this time. But we are considering…stay tuned.

Do you photograph men?

We are considering adding Dudeoir sessions but at this time we are not currently photographing men at our Houston boudoir studio…stay tuned.
