Miss P’s Classic Boudoir Shoot | Houston Boudoir | Portrait by Chrissy

Today on the blog I am featuring the beautiful and fabulous Miss P. Miss P’s boudoir session is mostly classic boudoir but we did mix some modern boudoir styles in there with my signature movement and flowy posing and shots.

Miss P, a bride to be came to my Houston boudoir studio to create a beautiful boudoir album to gift to her fiancé. In fact, her idea was so brilliant I want to share it with you for your own engagement boudoir shoot if you’d like. Miss. P had the amazing plan to sneak her beautiful album into her fiancé’s overnight bag for his bachelor party as a sweet surprise. *Note to do this, you would definitely want to schedule your session a few months in advance as Miss P did if you are considering an album for your boudoir session to celebrate your marriage or anniversary to ensure arrival in time.

I love Miss. P’s shoot not just because of how beautiful Miss. P looks in her images but because of the energy she brought with her to her session which radiates in her images.

My Favorite Beauty Products Right Now

My first love is of course making beautiful portraiture for my clients. My second love is makeup and beauty products…we all have our vices lol. Ok, ok jokes aside taking care of your skin and body is important…especially for portraits. If you have unhealthy skin, it will show up in your portraits. If you have tired skin, it will show up in your portraits. If you have dehydrated skin, it will show up in your portraits. So I am going to start a new thing…I am going to start blogging beauty products I love to help you up your beauty game. Some days I may blog on skin care, some days I may blog on makeup, some days I may blog on hair care but today I am just going to start with staples in my own beauty and skin care routine. I am going to list 5 amazing products and why I love them. Dr. Lipp

What it does

Dr. Lipp Tint lip balms are a spinoff of Dr. Lipp’s Original Nipple Balm. It actually works to heal your dry cracked lips and keep them soft and supple.

Why I love it

As a mom who nursed, I can testify to the power of lanolin based nipple balms. If they can quickly heal and moisturized cracked and bleeding nipples of nursing moms, imagine what this does to your lips. I love it because it doesn’t sit on top of your lips, it actually absorbs in there to work its magic. I have these stashed all over; my purse, my desk, my nightstand, my car, my living room. A little goes a long way and while these babies are small in size, they last. Apply in the morning for all day silky lips.

2. M. Greengrass Dry Oil Spray

What it does

m. greengrass Dry Oil Spray is a mix of natural oils that you can spray into your hair, rub on your skin, and apply to your face for all day softness.

Why I love it

I use this every day and it I love it! Why? It dry’s quickly into my skin, smells so good, and lasts all day. I spray this all over my body after I get out of the shower. It feels amazing and did I mention it dry’s super fast? That’s right. No greasy or oily residue.

3. Glow Recipe Moisturizers

What it does

Glow Recipe Moisturizer – moisturizes your face for day time glow and yummy watermelon smell.

Glow Recipe Face Mist- Hydration spray mist to apply after makeup application for a beautiful dewy look that smells like a yummy watermelon.

Glow Recipe Sleeping Mask- Hydrate your skin while sleeping at night for soft supple skin (did I mention smells like yummy watermelon?).

Why I love it

It feels so good going on, smells like a fresh cut ripe watermelon – BONUS, my skin feels amazing and radiates all day long. I love a dewy makeup look so after applying makeup I use the face mist to set my makeup and give my look a dewy look.

4. Mario Badescu Facial Spray

What it does

What doesn’t it do? If you’ve been around me you’ve seen this spray in either cucumber or rose. It’s everywhere! At my bathroom sink, by my nightstand, in my studio, at my desk, in my purse, in my car, in my living room, and even in my fridge for a summer cool down mist.

Why I love it

It goes on cool and refreshing! You can do so much with this spray which is why it’s always in arms reach. I even keep one in the fridge for hot summer days when I want a quick cool down mist (tip – going to the beach? River? Camping? Toss one in your cooler for a quick refreshing cool off mist!) This spray will hydrate your face, cool you down, give you a dewy makeup look when applied after makeup application, AND I use this spray to dampen my beauty blenders before applying my foundation and, if I want a dramatic look from glitter pigments and shadows, I wet my makeup brush with this. If you’ve ever had a shoot with me, you’ve seen this fabulous product at my studio vanity!

ULTA! I wait for them to put it on sale and snag a bunch for $2 each! I am not kidding when I say these bad boys are all over my home and always within arms reach.

5. Bite Beauty Agave+ Nighttime Vegan Lip Therapy

What it does

It’s a hydrating sleeping mask for your lips

Why I love it

I keep a jar next to my bed right next to the Glow Recipe Sleeping Mask from #3 as part of my bedtime beauty routine. It helps to keep my lips soft and supple while I sleep. I cannot stand dry, cracked, crusty lips. It’s part of my war chest along with Dr. Lipp from #1 above to keep my lips soft and hydrated!

My Favorite Beauty Tutorials

I have a secret…I spend a ridiculous amount of time watching YouTube Beauty Bloggers. Why? I dunno…I find the tutorials fascinating but I have learned so much from them. Below I will give you a list of my absolute favorite go to beauty gurus and why I love them.

Tati

Tati Westbrook isn’t one of my top favs, she is amazing at makeup and I am adding her because she is a mature beauty blogger and my client base is usually 35 up. Her videos are really long because she talks a lot and her voice is really monotone. I do find myself fast forwarding trying to get to the point or the makeup application.

2. Laura Lee

Laura Lee is a bit younger than Tati and her openings can be a bit long but she is not monotone like Tati and her tutorials are usually a lot faster to getting to the point.

3. Amy’s Makeup Box

Amy’s makeup box is a YouTuber I really like to watch however, she doesn’t stay consistent with eyeshadow pallets so replicating her gorgeous eyeshadows can be a challenge because she takes a color from one company and one from another and so on…

If you like bold, daring, and sexy eyes, Amy is your girl!

4. Jackie Aina

She’s a total goofball and you will laugh a lot watching her videos. Women of color don’t have enough representation in the beauty industry so if you are a woman of color you know how hard matching foundations and eyeshadows that pop can be on our skin. Jackie often sniffs out what works and what is failing… Also, Anastasia Beverly Hills is one of my top favorite beauty products. They gave Jackie her own pallet and it is a staple in my beauty routine.

If you think boudoir means skin and nudity, Miss I is here to show you the beauty and power of a modest boudoir session. You can cover up and still be stunning in your boudie shoot.

Miss I is another shoot that is styled from what she already had in her wardrobe closet, leggings and a cozy sweater, a bodysuit, and a bathing suit. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to style your boudoir session. I promise you! Miss B’s Cozy Boudoir Shoot | Houston Boudoir Photographer | Portrait by Chrissy

Miss R is rocking the blog today with with her cozy boudoir session here in my Houston boudoir studio. Cozy boudoir is at the top of the list of my favorite styles of boudoir. Although I like classic boudoir, cozy boudoir is different, stands out, and isn’t cookie cutter. Your real energy comes out in unposed and flowing cozy boudoir.

Anywho, this is yet another amazing session that you don’t have to break the bank to style. Everything Miss R is photographed in came straight from her own wardrobe. Bodysuits, cozy sweater, and even though the workout bra wasn’t initially a part of the wardrobe plan, I said throw it on and let’s roll with it!! It came out perfect!!

Today I want to show you Miss A’s amazing boudie shoot at my Houston boudoir studio. Miss A is one of my favorite clients and this was her second time doing a session with me. Her shoot is very inspirational and my complete element. Why? Movement. I love movement so much in portraits.

Another thing I love about Miss A’s shoot is the versatility and simplicity in it. Everything you see Miss A had in her wardrobe already. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to have an amazing boudoir shoot and you can get creative with what you have; jackets, suits, sweaters. jeans, etc…

The Forty Over Forty Project

Something big is about to be a part of Portrait by Chrissy! I am officially launching a personal portrait art campaign called The Forty Over Forty Campaign. It is my mission to photograph forty women over the age of 40 in 2020 and submit these works of art to a local art gallery for an exhibit. The women in this project do not have to be models or even modelesque. I want women over the age of 40 from all walks of life, shapes and sizes, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

If you’re a woman over the age of 40 and you want to be a part of something bigger, Portrait by Chrissy cordially invites you to come be a part of something bigger with The Forty Over Forty Project. I am launching this project to celebrate women over the age of 40 as I myself sit on the cusp of 40 at the age of 39. Women over 40 are absolutely breathtaking and stunning and in this project I intend to show the world through my art exactly how beautiful women over 40 are.

Here’s the details:

To be a part of this project you must be a woman over the age of 40 years old willing to sit for either a Modern Portrait or a Fine Art Modern Boudoir Portrait. (Boudoir selection will be styled in a fine art boudoir style for your session)

You MUST like and follow my Facebook Page Portrait by Chrissy or Portrait by Chrissy Boudoir

You must sign up before March 15th, 2020, there are only 40 slots for this project so you need to grab your slot fast!

Shoots will begin in March 2020 and be 30 minutes long

You will come hair and makeup ready – don’t worry, I will give you a prep guide so you’re picture perfect!

You will be photographed in 1-2 outfits you can choose from my wardrobe or style your own look from my Wardrobe Styling Guides.

There is a $100 session fee required. You can split your payments into two payments of $50 but you must be paid in full by March 15th, 2020. This will include your portrait session an a 5×7 matted print of the image I select to go to the art gallery should I be accepted as an exhibitor. Our regular session fee is $300 and our portrait images start at $200, you save $400 on portrait services with your entry into this project.

There is no further purchase necessary or required, you can choose to purchase additional images but it is not necessary.

You must sign a release so your images can be displayed.

Chrissy’s Boudoir Shoot |Houston Boudoir Photographer | Portrait by Chrissy

I did it! I took the plunge and did my own boudoir session. How can I tell other women they are perfectly beautiful and worth of boudoir and portraiture if I am too afraid to step in front of the camera myself. Yes, yes you heard that right, me the photographer has her own fears of being photographed! Just like you, I too am human and have my own struggle with body insecurities, fear of what people will think and say about me and my body, and feeling I am not pretty enough to be photographed like this…

And I was dead wrong! I have never been more in love with myself since I dove right it.

I knew I had to do this when I started photographing boudoir more and more last year. I knew I couldn’t be the boudoir photographer who couldn’t get in front of her own camera, what message would that send? Well, fast forward to February 2020 and this girl finally did it. I was scared as hell!

I purchased my bodysuit in Torrid and I remember standing in the dressing room looking at myself in the mirror and thinking “What are you about to do? No one wants to see your fat arse in this!” Yes, I thought that to myself, I have to speak freely and as a real woman, not as the professional preaching body empowerment. I had a real woman moment. I remembered what would I say to a woman thinking these thoughts? I’d tell her she was nuts and her mind was dumping irrational toxic thoughts into her soul she needed to cleanse. I had to remind myself that I am always going to be my worst critic. Walking up to check out I felt that crazy feeling of wooziness as I realized what I was buying this body suit for.

The next day it was showtime. It was time to do my shoot. One advantage I do have as a photographer is I am shooting in my own space so I can’t say yet I can understand feeling undressed and half dressed in front of a stranger with a camera in my face expecting me to be natural but, in the back of my mind was “What if they all point and laugh at me?”

Now, one major area I can sympathize with my clients now is in motion shots, something I absolutely love but am now more aware of the degree of difficulty that is required to constantly be in repetitive motion. It’s exhausting and it can throw you off balance. My average session is an hour and half, I had had enough forty-five minutes in. Once I called “It’s a wrap” I sat naked in my studio, editing my images, with nothing but a cardigan on lol…true story! I was so enthralled with my images I had to start editing right then and there. Four hours went by of culling and editing my images.

When I finished up what I wanted to edit immediately I called my husband to have a look-see and my images. I was so in love and he was too. I told him “I can’t believe this is me!” He laughed, looked at me, and said “You sound familiar…” I always hear from my clients “Oh my gosh, I can’t believe this is me, this doesn’t look like me, I can’t believe it,” and now here I am feeling it!

Then it was time to post my images on my boudoir page and on my personal Facebook feed. How did I feel? I wanted to vomit! I was scared! I was afraid of judgement and shocking my friends and associates and would upset some people but, I had to…this is my profession. In hindsight, even if this wasn’t my profession, I’d still post but in the moment I was terrified and now I’ll explain how I feel in retrospect…

People often say “I don’t understand how it empowers women?” Well, before this past weekend I could only speak from an outsider looking position but now I can speak from personal testimony when I say “It is empowering as AF!” You just don’t know and cannot understand how empowering and how much it rockets your confidence until you do it yourself. Knowing that you can photograph like a goddess, an it girl, a work of art, does hella wonders for your confidence. How I feel now, if someone wants to clutch the hell out of their pearls and proclaim boudoir is offensive, or a woman shouldn’t have to have a boudoir shoot to feel empowered, or show a bit of skin, keep clutching til those pearls bust because I am an experienced believer who will be doing this again, and again, and again….
